The Mash Tent
Sadly, we report that our Concert Mash Tent has retired. The end of an era!! The tent worked hard in the army since the 60's, and then went civilian as our concert venue in 1999. It was in bad shape already then, undergoing multiple surgeries with Ilene sewing heavy canvas tears here and there. One year, Ilene even sat under the house to sew it in its storage location. We got three full years of fabulous music out of it.
The tent is photographed and recorded, cricket chirping harmony and all, on Mary Byrd Brown's CD Live at House in the Woods. The finale was our October 2001 concert with Peter Mayer, a sold out show packed with 110 people. An honorable finale! The tent now retires as a noble canvas tarp (a 400 pound tarp, mind you!)protecting our makeshift wood storage shed. In the spring of 2002, the old tent site literally pushed up daisies. Thousands of wild native daisies!
