June Rachel Bissex
This concert was a special night with Rachel. It was her second performance at House in the Woods, we originally found this Vermonter at Falcon Ridge Folk Festival in New York. At this return show, she celebrated her victory battle against breast cancer. She felt like a survivor, and temporarily, she was. Her performance was inspirational, her friendship, warming. It may have been her last Maryland show. Her cancer returned with a vengeance by fall and she left us in February 2005. Quickly, mournful friends kicked into action and recorded a CD of Rachel's songs, sung by some of her many talented friends. I recommend the album, and all of her originals. They continue to support Rachel's last wish, to raise money for her children's college funds. We honor the memory of Rachel Bissex, and will never forget her.
